Community Involvement

The strength of our village is directly linked to a child’s success in school. Parents, teachers, peers, and the community all contribute to the well-rounded education of a child. Every parent in the school is a valued member of our parent volunteer organization.

La Piazza Academy Pledge

(by Kids for Peace)

I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way.
I pledge to help others as I go throughout my day.
I pledge to care for our earth with my healing heart and hands.
I pledge to respect people in each and every land.
I pledge to join together as we unite the big and small.
I pledge to do my part to create peace for one and all.

Parent Participation

The parent volunteer organization provides numerous opportunities in which every parent can find a comfortable way to offer their time, talent, energy and ideas in support of the school. We request that each parent volunteers at least one hour during the school year.

Cooking Group: This group helps to organize, schedule and prepare for family events where homemade food is going to be served. Events include Thanksgiving and Night of the Arts. The Cooking Group also hosts regular bake sales.

Decorating Group: We all know that there is love at first sight. Many of our events require beautiful environments. The Decorating Group enhances the school aesthetics for holidays and special events.

Fundraising Group: Professional developments, outreach programs and special projects may require extra effort from our families. We want enthusiastic parents to help use with our fundraising events, such as Night of the Arts, a bake sale and other important events where funds can be raised to support school needs.

Outreach Group: A group of volunteers helps assess the needs of the community; maintain communications with the institution we are supporting; arrange, publicize and conduct food, clothing or toy drives, as well as deliver items to the appropriate agency.

Silent Auction Group: This group will plan and execute our Silent Auction. This group connects the school with our surrounding community and implements all elements of the event.

Additional opportunities for parent participation include:

  • Room Parents
  • Volunteer for school events throughout the year
  • Community Fridays
  • Elementary Parents: Friday Lunch Dates
  • Chaperone field trips

Field Trips

Students attend a variety of field trips to engage in first-hand learning throughout the year. In preschool, children go to Knaus Berry Farm for a berry picking experience to connect with the origins of food. They also visit Key Biscayne Nature Center to explore the Miami ecosystem.

In elementary school, field trips rotate according to the curriculum and children’s interest. Frost Science Museum, Perez Art Museum Miami, History Museum Miami, Key Biscayne Nature Center, Actors’ Playhouse and other local community buildings play a key role in supporting our experiential curriculum.

After School Programs

We offer a variety of fun, engaging programs to enrich the whole child after school. Children can pursue their passions or try something new as they explore the classes offered by professionals in the field.
