Lead Preschool Teacher

Job Description

Small class size, excellent team support in progressive school environment. We believe children are unique, highly capable beings who develop at their own pace. At La Piazza Academy, we nurture the whole child as a member of a family, a classroom, and a community.

As a preschool educator, you will cultivate the ability to wonder, to question, to explore, to discover, to think critically, and to be compassionate as students pursue their interests while mastering the skills required to be happy, effective members of society.

Educators participate as a member of a collaborative, cooperative classroom team. They are responsible for working with small groups of students as well as helping to design, organize, and maintain a classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood educator or child psychology and a minimum of three years teaching experience in a progressive school is required. A Florida or other state teaching credential is preferred but is not required. A genuine love of working with children, flexibility, initiative, an open-mind, and an authentic, warm, happy attitude are very important. Educators must be committed to environmental sustainability, conscious education, and equity. Other qualifications include excellent communication skills, strong collaboration skills, outstanding organizational skills, and a demonstration of high standards of professional conduct in private school environment. Salary is based on experience and credentials.

Elementary School Teacher

Job Description

Elementary educators develop interdisciplinary, thematic units that challenge students to utilize critical, creative, and problem-solving skills in meaningful ways. Project-based learning is central to our philosophy that empowers learner agency. Through differentiation, learners are guided to master major concepts, processes and skills as they build connections between ideas. At La Piazza Academy, scholarship is a developmental process of breadth and depth. Children are given opportunities for self-directed inquiry as well as collaboration with their peers. The goal is to teach children “how to think, not what to think” as they prepare to be responsible, effective, compassionate global citizens.

Elementary School Educator Major Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach interdisciplinary, experiential program to learners in multi-age class (two-year age range)
  • Work collaboratively with LPA faculty
  • Provide continuous learner assessment, write mid-year and year-end progress reports, and conduct parent-educator-learner conferences
  • Attend weekly curriculum meeting and actively participate in designing learner-centered curriculum based on children’s interests that exceed national standards
  • Utilize technology to support learning
  • Write weekly reflections

Elementary School Teacher Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required

To be a successful La Piazza Academy educator, a strong knowledge of elementary curriculum and child development is required. The ideal educator must be able to adjust the curriculum to the cognitive level of each child and provide a wide range of materials for varying learning styles and multiple intelligences. Typically, our learners are academically gifted. Familiarity with creative ways of approaching a subject and initiative to develop one’s own materials are important. Educators must be lovers of learning and open to learning new pedagogy. A conscious approach to nurturing empathetic global citizens with commitment to environmental sustainability is an advantage.

Preschool Art Teacher

Job Description

Art teachers work collaboratively with classroom educators to develop interdisciplinary, thematic units that challenge students to utilize critical, creative, and problem-solving skills in meaningful ways. Project-based learning empowers learner agency, and art is a central component to our school program.

The art room is a special space in which you will explore a variety of materials with small groups of children, documenting how children work with mixed materials to make their ideas come to life. From clay to paint, fabric to wire, the atelier is a place where children use authentic materials to create and have their theories come to fruition. The role of the Art Educator is to observe and document children’s ideas, offer interesting provocations that introduce new materials to children, and help scaffold and delve deeper into children’s theories. The educator must be flexible and provide autonomy to the learners to choose materials that speak to them in a particular moment. It is the job of the educator to allow them space to work, pose questions that promote deeper thinking and offer suggestions that may lead to greater discovery.
