Dear families:

This is the last newsletter of the year and, as many of you may feel, this year went so fast. As a school, we experienced very special moments with our La Piazza community. Every year, I have the privilege to meet amazing families that support our vision about their children’s education. Thanks for trusting in us and being with us on this journey.

I feel very proud of the school we have today. We are pioneers in progressive education in Miami. The acceptance of the community has been extraordinary, and it seems that the need for a school like ours is growing. I’m a strong believer that education, as with any other field, is in constant change. Therefore, schools have the responsibility to provide a program that will prepare our children for the world we have today and for what is to come.

We had some exceptional highlights in 2018, that include receiving the APPLE Accreditation for our Coconut Grove campus. Both schools are now Apple accredited and have received the Gold Seal quality. Additionally, we have strengthened our life skills / mental health program which focuses on social and emotional development for our children, our team and provides support to families. The founder of Stop Parenting Alone teaches a Habits of Mind class for our elementary students. Also, we were Mandarin Chinese champions for the second year in a row after competing in the state-wide 11th Annual Mandarin Chinese Language Competition. These are just a few of our accomplishments as a school that were possible with the support of our team and families.

For 2019, we will continue investing in professional development. This is one of the most important aspects to continue growing, learning and improving our educational approach. As pioneers in the progressive education landscape, we are committed to nurturing well-rounded citizens that will have a positive impact on the world.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy and beautiful holiday season.

With love,

Jessica Pinto

Community Day

Community Day

La Piazza had its first Community Day of 2018-19 on Friday, November 9th. Our classes opened their doors to their student’s family and friends. Each class prepared an engaging experience – there were paper flower crafts, an “autumn walk” experience, sensorial fun with plants and herbs, a dino experience, and a glow in the dark sensorial experience.

Our Community days are a great time to get together with other families for engaging, interactive experiences. We hope to see you on February 8th for our next Community Day!

Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving Feast
Thanksgiving Feast

Our Thanksgiving feast was celebrated on Tuesday, November 20th. All classes gathered together to participate in the great feast as one family. Our Cooking Committee made sure the feast included all of the traditional Thanksgiving staples. Some changes this year included using recyclable materials for our place mats and making sure to include plenty of allergy free dishes for the feast. Thank you to the Cooking Committee for all your hard work!

Scholastic Book Fair

Scholastic Book Fair

La Piazza held its Scholastic Book Fair on November 28th and 29th. Parents volunteered and helped run the fair, which was a great successs – between both campuses we made over $2,000.00 in sales – the proceeds of which will go towards our school library.

During the month of November, our school collected canned foods and other items for victims of Hurricane Michael. In total, we collected 325 lbs. of food – enough to provide over 270 meals to those in need.

La Piazza Foundation

We would like to extend a sincere Thank You to everyone who has donated and supported La Piazza Foundation so far – your contributions are helping to make our vision a reality.

La Piazza Academy has created the La Piazza Foundation, a section 501(c)(3) public charity, with the purpose of serving children in my hometown of Manizales, Colombia. In Manizales, our contributions will make a big impact by educating a great number of children. Growing up in Manizales, I witnessed extreme poverty. Many children in this area grow up in tragic circumstances and lack access to basic needs. For these children, the opportunity to go to school is the only glimmer of hope in their otherwise bleak day.

My goal is to create a dignified, stable environment for these children to spend their childhood. My hope is that they can grow to be productive citizens, and in turn, help their own community.

Regardless of the circumstances a child is born into, all children deserve the same opportunities. By contributing to La Piazza Foundation, you are helping to impact the daily life of a child just like yours.

Please view the below video to learn more about the children we will be helping.
