As we conclude the 2018-2019 school year, I reflect on the remarkable growth of our children. They have blossomed and developed, each in their own way, as unique individuals.
Spring was filled with beautiful events that celebrated our connection as a community. From our Community Day focused on the Earth to the Fiesta & Fun(draiser), a sense of collective consciousness for the planet and its youngest generation was heightened. Thank you to the marvelous mothers who partner with our program to raise responsible, engaged citizens. We adored celebrating you at our Mother’s Day Brunch.
With gratitude, I would like to thank the children, atelieristas and teachers for the extraordinary classroom artwork that was auctioned at the event. The children pour passion and talent into every piece. We showcased their remarkable work at the Night of the Arts & Italian Dinner. We closed out our last day of school with a beloved annual tradition – Bicycle Day. The children seemed to have a wonderful time enjoying their last day with their friends and teachers.
As we close one year, we open another. Although 2019-20 will bring some changes and transitions, as all years do, I feel we will grow closer as a family, as a community and as a school. For the families who will continue with us through the next year, we thank you for your support and believing in our mission. For the families who will be moving on, thank you for allowing us to spend such special moments with your children this year. We will carry this year in our hearts always. Remember, the doors to La Piazza are always open to you – please visit us sometime!
On April 12th, the students enjoyed a beautiful Community Day in celebration of Earth Month. As we connected the puzzle, the spirit of La Piazza brought us all a little bit closer in our endeavor to nurture our children into environmental stewards who will continue our goals to protect our planet.
Spring Egg Hunt
Our Spring Egg Hunt took place on Thursday, April 18th. The children engaged in a school wide egg hunt. They had clues to help them go to various locations around the school to collect eggs. It was ‘egg’zilerating!
Mercedes Benz Corporate Run
On April 25, La Piazza Academy joined as a team to represent our community in the downtown event.
In The Garden
What a surprise! While working in the garden, Magnolia Class decided to use thier tomatoes and basil (a gift from William) to make a caprese salad. We read the recipe together and added extra ingredients: salt, mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious!
Spirit Week took place on April 22-26. Recycled hats, crazy hair, favorite authors and sports teams! What a fun week to start winding down the school year.
On May 4th, the Fiesta & Fun event to raise money for La Piazza Foundation and the new outdoor makerspace was a superb success! Thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, and participated in the event. A humungous thank you to the Silent Auction Committee for their time, energy and passion to create a spectacular evening.
Mother’s Day Celebration
On May 10th, we celebrated Mother’s Day and shared festivities with so many mothers and family representatives! The school beamed with love at the magical event.
Italian Night of the Arts
On May 17th, our school was transformed into a magnificent art gallery. The children’s masterpieces were beautifully displayed throughout our campus. Families joined together as a community to enjoy a wide-range of art pieces from clay sculptures and masks to abstract paintings and a video installation. Additionally, The Cooking Committee lovingly made a delicious, home-made Italian feast we shared with laughter and joy. We are so proud of our children and all the work they created over the course of the school year. A humongous, heart-felt thank you to Ms. Monica for her passion, love and commitment. She truly brings out the artist in every child.
On May 30th, children brought their bicycles, tricycles and scooters for a fun-filled morning and later cooled down with a yummy popsicle.
Miss Sara Interviewed on Buena Vida
Our talented preschool music teacher, Miss Sara, had the honor of being interviewed on Buena Vida on MegaTV this month. We are so proud of her accomplishments and are happy to call her a member of the La Piazza family!
La Piazza Foundation
We would like to extend a sincere Thank You to everyone who has donated and supported La Piazza Foundation so far – your contributions are helping to make our vision a reality.
La Piazza Academy has created the La Piazza Foundation, a section 501(c)(3) public charity, with the purpose of serving children in my hometown of Manizales, Colombia. In Manizales, our contributions will make a big impact by educating a great number of children. Growing up in Manizales, I witnessed extreme poverty. Many children in this area grow up in tragic circumstances and lack access to basic needs. For these children, the opportunity to go to school is the only glimmer of hope in their otherwise bleak day.
My goal is to create a dignified, stable environment for these children to spend their childhood. My hope is that they can grow to be productive citizens, and in turn, help their own community.
Regardless of the circumstances a child is born into, all children deserve the same opportunities. By contributing to La Piazza Foundation, you are helping to impact the daily life of a child just like yours.
Please view the below video to learn more about the children we will be helping.
