Assistant Head of School

La Piazza Academy seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Head of School, effective July 1, 2019. The Assistant Head is a highly visible community leader who works closely with the Head of School to oversee the wellbeing of the school and its community.

As a key member of leadership team, this role includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Focus on institutional advancement with an integrated approach to program, admissions, and communication
  • Admissions (tours, events, database, follow up) and communications (internal, external)
  • Provide programmatic support and innovation
  • Maintain positive behavior supports and a standard of student behavior
  • Establish strong relationships with teachers, students and colleagues
  • Communicate regularly with parents, so as to create a cooperative relationship that increases parent participation in student learning
  • Oversee teacher training and implement progressive approach to learning
  • Coordinate faculty teaching and duty assignments
  • Design and implement faculty orientation, training, mentoring, and evaluation
  • Assist and work closely with the Head of School on faculty concerns
  • Lead parent committees
  • Honors the activities which define the deep culture and values of La Piazza Academy
  • Collaborates with Head of School for oversight of daily school operations

La Piazza Academy is a growing progressive school in Coconut Grove, FL. The school began as a Reggio Emilia inspired preschool five years ago, and due to parent demand, expanded to an elementary school.

Our elementary school program ignites the passion for learning in all children as it nurtures and supports each individual’s intellectual, socio-emotional, and physical well being. Students are active learners who joyfully discover, deliberately explore and carefully investigate material in our project-based curriculum.

Our highly qualified elementary teachers develop interdisciplinary, thematic units that challenge students to utilize critical, creative, and problem-solving skills in meaningful ways. Language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, the arts, physical education, and modern languages are seamlessly intertwined in the multi-sensory curriculum. Kindergarten and Elementary School Teacher Major Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach curriculum to children in non-graded class (two-year age range) with a team teacher
  • Work closely with other faculty and staff
  • Provide continuous student assessment, write mid-year and year-end progress reports, and hold teacher-student-parent conferences
  • Attend weekly curriculum meeting and actively participate in designing a child-centered curriculum based on students’ interests that exceeds the benchmarks of kindergarten and 1st grade standards

Kindergarten Teacher and Elementary School Teacher Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required

To be a successful La Piazza Academy teacher, a strong knowledge of child development is needed. The ideal teacher must be able to adjust the curriculum to the cognitive level of each child and provide a wide range of materials for the varying learning styles and multiple intelligences amongst the students. Familiarity with many ways of approaching a subject and initiative to develop one’s own materials are important. Teachers must be lovers of learning and open to learning new pedagogy.

Kindergarten Teacher and Elementary School Teacher Qualifications

A minimum of three years lead teaching experience as a lower school elementary teacher is essential. A Florida or other state teaching credential is preferred but is not required. A genuine love of working with children, flexibility, initiative, an open-mind, and a warm, happy attitude are very important. Other qualifications include excellent communication skills, strong collaboration skills, and a demonstration of high standards of professional conduct. Salary is based on experience and credentials.

La Piazza Academy is seeking a school administrative assistant.

As a school administrative assistant, you will assist the administrative team with clerical duties, which include but are not limited to creating and editing correspondence, maintaining an organized schedule, filing, acting as a liaison between families and teachers as well as other school orientated tasks.

The ideal candidate compassionately greets every person with a smile, is helpful with directions and appropriate information, as well as maintains a high level of confidentiality. S/he is highly organized, friendly, motivated, and able to complete assignments in a timely manner.

Qualifications and Skills

Part time: entails a schedule of 2:00PM – 6:00PM Monday – Friday, with extra hours (Between 9:00AM and 6:00PM) on an as needed basis.

Full time: entails a schedule of 9:00AM – 6:00PM Monday – Friday.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English is necessary . (Bi-lingual in Spanish/Portuguese/Italian/French preferable). A high-level of motivation and initiative, excellent organizational skills, attention to details, the aptitude to work independently and good customer service skills are imperative to the position. Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, other software (Adobe).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serve visitors by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately.
  • Answer, screen and forward any incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed
  • Maintain security by following procedures and controlling access to school, including only allowing children to be dismissed to authorized persons.
  • Maintain accurate sign in-sign out records for students entering/leaving school
  • Print forms and ensure completion.
  • Update appointment calendars and schedule meetings/appointments/school tours
  • Follow up on School Tour leads via email/phone call
  • Maintain updated Health and Immunization records for students
  • Receive monthly tuition/charge credit cards for tuition when necessary
  • Troubleshoot parent/teacher software as needed
  • Perform other clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, collating, faxing etc.
